Weddings are beautiful, but they can be expensive to host. Similar to hosting any event, there are so many hidden costs that we fail to think about such as the wedding favors, flowers, or even the centerpieces for the reception tables.

Planning your “big day” can be a big pain, but here are a few easy tips to take some of the stress away:

1. Have your wedding in the off season

Avoid planning your wedding from May-October. The prices for venues skyrocket in the summer because everyone wants a summer wedding.

2. Buy flowers in bulk

There are so many websites that allow you to buy flowers in bulk orders. Also consider buying flowers that are in season.

3. Hold the ceremony and the reception at the same venue

Avoid having to pay for two venues and prevent the relocation confusion that can sometimes occur for out-of-town guests.

4. DIY your reception menu cards

Paying for menu cards for the reception is just an unnecessary cost. To avoid this, simply DIY a menu that fits your theme.

5. Create your own invitations

There are many online templates for creating your own wedding invitation. Get creative and just print the invitations at home on some nice cardstock. It’s half the cost and has more of a personal touch.

6. Reduce your guest list

As much as you might want to invite everybody and their parents to your wedding, sometimes you just can’t. Reducing your guest list can help cut costs on food, favors and invitations.

7. Plan your honeymoon for the week instead of the weekend

Not only is airfare cheaper on the weekdays, but so are hotels. Just request time off from work in advance.

8. DIY your own centerpiece

Creating your centerpieces is fun and so cost efficient. The possibilities are limitless. Check out the many tutorials on YouTube and Pinterest.

9. Consider a public space for your venue

Having a wedding at a park makes for great scenery and is cost friendly. Your guests will have a great time surrounded by some natural beauty.

10. Make DIY wedding favors

Wedding favors can get costly depending on the number of guests you’re inviting. Consider limiting the favors to one per person or one per couple. Some DIY favors to consider include a candy buffet, homemade candles, or photo coasters. Get creative and think outside of the box.

These tips are sure to help you have the most amazing, thrifty, cost-effective wedding of your dreams!
