TV One’s successful music docuseries, Unsung returns Wednesday, February 10 for a brand new season. The award winning show features a crop of artists with star quality, often ahead of their time musically and their shot at mainstream success didn’t go quite as planned. Untold stories by the real thing and those who knew them best.
As we get pumped about the new season of Unsung, here are 16 artists we’d like to see featured.
1. Avant
A catalog of great hits, but who is the man behind it? Avant brought a new sound when the ’99 was taking over for 2000. His success as an R&B artist only reached a certain level.
2. Kelly Price
The voice long overdue for a Grammy. Just like many of the women in the 80’s, her weight became a frequent issue for public reception. Let’s hear how she overcame it and transformed.
3. Lady of Rage
Unsung rarely features female MC’s. Lady of Rage spit fire with the best of the boys. Many of the male artists she collaborated with became legendary, leaving her in the dust. Plus, there is way more to Coretta than we got to see on The Steve Harvey Show.
4. Ja Rule
From a Billboard artist to inmate with a cookbook. You know there’s an epic story behind it.
5. Mya
She was here, then she was not. Judging by her Instagram account, Mya’s living a great life, working on a 12th project. But there’s a gap in time for the once R&B girl next door.
6. DMX
I think audiences just want to know why Iyanla was unable to fix Earl’s life.
7. Dru Hill
Who is the fifth guy in the group? Where did he come from? Why wasn’t the reunion successful? So many questions that need answers. Can we start the story at Thong Song and work our way back? How did your lead singer start a pop culture phenomenon about women’s lingerie while dawning silver hair?

8. Junior Mafia
I just want to know them all by name. They were practically written off as Lil Kim’s pips.
9. Mystikal
Because we just want to hear the narrator (Gary Anthony Williams) with the big voice say Shake Ya Ass.
10. D’Angelo
Do we need an excuse to watch the Untitled (How Does It Feel) video again?
11. En Vogue
Did you see the Xscape episode? One of the most controversial in the show’s history. Girl groups have a way of spilling tea. En Vogue had its share of ups and downs (and exits) over the years, so what really happened?
12. Silk
There was a meeting in the bedroom and not much thereafter. Where ya’ll at?
13. IMX (Immature)
They were like the Jackson 5 but three. Why the name change? Was Roger going home to work on music? Are the rumors true; is Brandy really responsible for the eye patch?
14. Next
Would they reconsider adding a fourth member to the group?
15. Karyn White
Seeing as how she didn’t get a call for the Babyface tribute at the Soul Train Awards, Ms. White likely has a great story to tell.
