Being stuck at a desk all day can definitely take a toll on your body, which is why it’s so important to remember to get up and move around, as well as have healthy snacks readily available at your desk. It’s so easy to get caught up in the business of the day that you run out of the house with no packed lunch, therefore leaving no other alternatives than to purchase fast food or head to the vending machine when hunger strikes. When done consistently, neither option is good for the wallet or waistline.

That being said, let’s discuss some healthier snacks that can be stashed right at a desk or office refrigerator, particularly for those moments when you’re unable to step away for a proper lunch break or you left your lunch at home. Also, be sure to invest in a lunch bag and label it for the office.

Technically, you should be fueling your body every couple of hours to keep your metabolism going. However, it’s important that we’re doing so the healthy way. It’s important that you do eat regularly in addition to these suggestions, as these are just snacking suggestions for in-between meals.

Here are some options:

Low-fat mozzarella string cheese or Caprese salad

This is my favorite go-to snack! It’s very filling.

Almonds

Almonds are brain food. The best time of day to eat almonds is in the early afternoon when you need a boost. A handful usually does the trick.

Apple slices with peanut or almond butter

This will usually curb your sweet and salty cravings. It’s very delicious and will keep you full for a significant period of time.

Hard-boiled eggs

Protein is so important. Hard-boiled eggs are perfect for breakfast. You can make a couple at home and refrigerate them at work to snack on when you’re most hungry. The downside is that they smell pretty bad.

Smoothies

Smoothies are the bomb. You can make them at home and freeze for the next day or make them fresh in the morning before heading out. You might also want to add a little protein powder. Healthy smoothies make for a great meal replacement once a day.
