ABC has given a cast-contingent pilot production commitment to a single-camera untitled comedy about a struggling rapper who runs for mayor to promote his mixtape and ends up winning the race, Deadline says. This project comes from Daveed Diggs (Hamilton), writer Jeremy Bronson (Late Night with Jimmy Fallon) and Jamie Tarses, as well as Scott Stuber & Dylan Clark’s Bluegrass FanFare production company.

Directing will be James Griffiths, (who directed the pilot for black-ish). Diggs, who has recently appeared on Netflix’s The Get Down and ABC’s black-ish will be executive producing alongside Bronson, who is a writer on the project.

According to the report, it doesn’t look like Diggs will be acting in the untitled ABC project.

However, what we know so far about the series seems lit, so hopefully the show will have stellar cast. Also, Diggs recently booked his first film role in the adaptation of author R. J. Palacio’s children’s book Wonder. The film of the same name will be directed by Stephen Chbosky and star Jacob Tremblay and Julia Roberts, alongside Diggs.

Wonder is set to premiere in 2017. Congrats, Daveed!
