We recently reported on the awful and senseless murder of 17-year-old Nabra Hassanen, who went missing after a road rage dispute with a motorist (suspect, 22-year-old Darwin Martinez Torres) that transpired while she was on her way to a local mosque with a group of friends for Ramadan prayers.

The suspect reportedly pulled over and chased Hassanen and her friends, capturing Hassanen and attacking her with a baseball bat. She was later found dead by a pond in Virginia. According to local authorities, there is an investigation into whether her attacks involved sexual assault.

And now, we're sad to report that this sad story has gotten even worse.

A beautiful memorial was set up for Hassanen near a Virginia mosque in Dupont Circle. According to Fox 5, that memorial has been set on fire.

It seems like even Hassanen’s posthumous image cannot escape bigotry and hate.

D.C. Police have confirmed that 24-year-old North Carolinian Jonathon Soloman has been arrested in connection with the memorial fire.

The, United States Park Police noted that since the man set several items on fire in the park, his actions may not have intentionally targeted Hassanen's memorial. Soloman has been charged with vandalism.

What an unimaginably heartbreaking and enraging incident.
