Amandla Stenberg has been one of our faves since she won our hearts as Rue in The Hunger Games. We’ve watched her grow and glow into an amazing young woman. With her being cast as the star of Fox’s Darkest Minds, we’ll see her front and center where she belongs.
Darkest Minds is a young adult sci-fi book trilogy by Alexander Bracken.
FOX has secured the title, and will bring an adaptation to the big screen. Amandla will play the story’s protagonist. Ruby Daley is a 16-year-old psychic with telekinetic powers. In her world, widespread disease has killed much of the population. But some of those that survive evolve, and develop supernatural powers. Due to the potential threat they pose, the powers that be contain them in an internment camp.
This teen sci-fi thriller is perfect for Sternberg. Thanks to her wonderful comic book, Niobe, we’ve already seen her as a superhero in the panels. But thanks to this teen sci-fi thriller, we’ll get to see another powerful young black woman on the silver screen in Darkest Minds.
It’s still extremely early in the process, so there’s no release date for this movie, yet. But we’ll keep our ears to the streets for more news. I bet the trailer is going to be amazing.
Congrats Amandla! We can’t wait to see you kill it in this much deserved role.
