The queen of soul has come to Flint’s aid during the city’s water crisis. Aretha Franklin announced plans to provide rooms for up to 50 people at the Holiday Inn in Southfield, MI. In addition to providing shelter, food and beverage will also be included, courtesy of the nearest Coney Island, a Detroit staple.

New Bethel Baptist Church, where Franklin’s father once served as pastor, will do the pre-screenings for Flint residents looking to take part. All dates are yet to be announced, but Franklin offered some kind words to the residents.

“Detroiters usually come to the aid of Detroiters — and Flint is certainly regarded as Detroit — Hang in there.”
