Queen Bey stole the show Monday night as she became CFDA’s “surprise” Fashion Icon.

There was much speculation about who the winner would be especially since the honorees and nominees were listed without the Icon back in March. However, CFDA president Diane von Furstenburg announced Beyoncé as the winner last night, and the room erupted.

Bey graced the stage wearing a wide-brimmed “Formation” style black hat and a glittering pin-striped Givenchy tux, which automatically put everyone in the mind of Michael Jackson’s bejeweled costume in “Rock With You”.

Not only did the Queen look absolutely gorgeous, of course, but she delivered a very heartfelt speech, recalling her earliest memories with her mother and her family’s connection to fashion through the generations.

“As long as I can remember, fashion has been part of my life. Its effect on me actually started before I was born,” she said. “Many of you guys don’t know this, but my grandmother was a seamstress. My grandparents did not have enough money, they could not afford my mother’s Catholic school tuition. So my grandmother sewed clothes for the priests and the nuns and made uniforms for the students in exchange for my mother’s education. She then passed this gift onto my mother and taught her how to sew.”

She also reminds the room that their industry wasn’t always accepting of her when she says, “Starting out in Destiny’s Child, high-end labels didn’t really want to dress four black country curvy girls, and we couldn’t afford designer dresses and couture. My mother was rejected from every showroom in New York.”

She even sent us Game of Thrones fanatics over the edge when she referenced feeling like “Khaleesi” in the clothes her mother and uncle made for Destiny’s Child.

Little Blue watched her mom accept the honor from the audience, dawning her own toddler style.

The Queen is just… everything! And her entire speech is just as inspiring as anything she’s ever done.
