By now, you’re probably aware that I have a slight obsession with the ABC sitcom Black-ish. But how could I not? It’s family-friendly television that’s not only funny, it cleverly tackles some of the toughest topics that families face, all while remaining proudly and profoundly black. It’s a near-perfect, socially-conscious comedy, so I can’t help it if I’m a little infatuated!
Sadly, the second season will soon come to a close and we’ll be without the show for four long months. But don’t fret, fellow Black-ish fans. For those of you who love the show as much as I do, here are some predictions I have for the third season to make sure you keep a little Black-ish in your life during the summer break.
What if…
Bow quits her job to spend more time with her kids.
Don’t worry, though, she’ll go back to being a life-saving doctor once the twins hit their teenage years.
Zoey continues to reject male suitors in favor of her studies.
Turns out, Zoey doesn’t only want to marry well, she’s even considering becoming a doctor like her awe-inspiring mom! All her hard work earns her acceptances to multiple high-ranking schools, including Harvard and Bow’s alma mater, Brown.
Diane attends “court-ordered therapy,” but it isn’t working for her.
Bow and Dre place her in therapeutic horseback riding out of desperation, but it turns out she’s a natural.
The Johnsons’ financial issues come to a head.
Dre’s sneaker-buying problem hasn’t subsided either. Perhaps the family will downsize their home to help with their financial struggles?
We finally meet Dre’s brother and Bow’s sister.
Definitely excited to see what Bow’s sister is like.
Charlie comes back to update the family on his new job.
When he comes back, we’ll never want him to leave again!
Cousin Junebug returns to the Johnson household to help Dre show the kids the neighborhood where they grew up.
The whole family goes on a trip down Dre’s memory lane.
Bo’s parents return with something interesting to teach the kids.
Maybe they’ll show the kids the power of the “poo bus.”
Bow and Dre discuss career paths with the kids.
It’s a discussion intended for Zoey to get her thinking about her college major, but everyone chimes in, of course.
Junior gets into a little bit of trouble.
He befriends a black girl (his first girlfriend), who likes taking risks. He gets caught shoplifting some beer and is put in grocery store jail. Not to worry, Pops bails him out.
Dre, Bow, Zoey and Junior take a trip to visit Dre’s alma mater.
We saw Bow show off her school, now it’s Dre’s turn.
We finally meet Daphne’s infamous ex-husband, and Mr. Stevens’ ex-business partner, Mr. Lido.
Talk about awkward.
And we briefly meet Mr. Stevens infamous kids.
They show up to scam Mr. Stevens out of his money, in their typical fashion.
Pops falls in love with a surprisingly age-appropriate woman.
This will force Ruby to sort out her feelings for Pops versus her feelings for her current boyfriend, Davis.
The family attends the first annual Johnson Family Reunion and Field Day.
Of course, Jack leads Team Johnson to victory in the dance-off.
Dre finally learns to swim.
He has to learn sometime.
There you have it. The completely accurate, totally factual predictions for Black-ish season 3 (also known as my completely imagined hopes and dreams for the show). After the second season wraps up this May, the show will be back again in fall 2017 — and we can hardly wait.
