Police officers are going above and beyond to sweeten things up with the black community, given the recent instances of police brutality across the country.

In one instance, an Arkansas police officer uses Instagram to highlight his daily adventures in the black community in which he patrols. In Wichita, Kansas officers collaborated with Black Lives Matter organizers to turn a would-be protest into a free community cookout and the story went viral.

But in Oakland, CA Black Lives Matters protestors aren’t here for it.

Earlier this week, Oakland Police Department invited local Black Lives Matter protesters to a barbecue, hoping to recreate what happened in Wichita. On Wednesday, BLM protestors chained themselves to the doors of the building of the Oakland Police Department. One of the protestors, Karissa Lewis, was asked about the police department’s offer.

“Barbecue’s aren’t going to stop the brutality that black folks are facing,” Lewis told KTVU. “A barbecue is definitely not going to stop this blockade. And as a radical-black farmer from East Oakland— I eat pigs, I don’t eat with them.”

The Oakland police department says the offer still stands.
