After a long time battle with throat cancer, 73-year-old René Angelil passed away Thursday morning in his Las Vegas home.

According to People, Angelil’s rep said that the family has requested privacy at this time and more details about his passing will be disclosed at a later date.

The couple met when Céline Dion was just 12 years old and René, 26 years her senior, became her manager, nurturing her illustrious career in music. They married in 1994 and had their first son René-Charles Nelson in 2001, and twins Eddy & Nelson in 2010.

He is survived by his wife Céline, their three children, and his children Anne-Marie, Patrick and Jean-Pierre from a former relationship. Dion said in a recent interview that she wanted to keep her promise to her husband and let him die in her arms. Angélil would have been 74 on January 16th.
