While it’s very disturbing to think about the Obama family moving out of the White House very soon, they aren’t moving very far.
We’ve known for a while that the Obamas planned to stay in D.C. until Sasha finishes high school, and now we know exactly where they will reside.
According to the New York Times, the Obama family leased a 8,200-square foot mansion in a D.C. neighborhood called Kalorama. The neighborhood, described to be one of the D.C.’s wealthiest zip codes, is said to be an “oasis of residential calm in the middle of a bustling city.”
The Obama’s future house is valued at $6 million with nine bedrooms and nine bathrooms, complete with marble countertops, hardwood floors and terrace gardens. It is owned by Joe Lockhart, a former Clinton press secretary, and Giovanna Lockhart, an editor at Glamour. The two recently moved to Manhattan as Joe is now the NFL’s VP of Communications.
The location is said to accommodate the Obama’s need for Secret Service, including a gated courtyard for several vehicles and a guardhouse. The neighborhood already has tight security due to its proximity to several international embassies.
The Obamas still own a house in Chicago. Sasha will graduate from Sidwell Friends School in 2018, and Malia is taking a gap year before she attends Harvard.
