Lupita Nyong’o is set to make her broadway debut in the play ‘Eclipsed’. The play, which is co-produced by Lala Anthony, is the first production by an all black female cast.
Written by Danai Gurira of the Walking Dead, and directed by Liesl Tommy, the play tells the story of 5 women coping with the the unrest during the Liberian Civil War. The play originally premiered in 2009 at the Yale Repertory Theatre, where Nyong’o was merely an understudy. Fast-forward to 2015, and Nyong’o is the star of the South-African directed, sold out play at the Public Theatre.
The show also features performances by Pascale Armand, Zainab Jah, Saycon Sengbloh, and Akosua Busia, who will be reprising their respective roles from the 2015 show.
Previews for the show will begin on Tuesday, February 23, with opening night set for March 6th at the Golden Theatre.
