Netflix unveiled a brand new clip from the highly anticipated Part 2 of “The Get Down.” The clip features Mylene Cruz (Herizen Guardiola) showcasing her rising star power in a performance of “Toybox.”
In this clip from Episode 10, Mylene Cruz (Herizen Guardiola) performs a solo at the Ruby Con, New York’s outrageous Studio 54-like nightclub. With her idol Misty Holloway (Renee Elise Goldsberry) performing the same night, Mylene knows she needs to make an impression, and reveals her new single “Toybox” (written by Sia) before an enthusiastic crowd; but what she doesn’t know is that her father, Pastor Ramon Cruz (Giancarlo Esposito) is also in the audience.
Part Two of “The Get Down” picks up in 1978, one year after the events of Part One. The sweeping upheaval of late 70s New York City finds an as-yet-unnamed new pop cultural force striking a new beat in the Bronx, while disco still reigns supreme. Our young lovers, Books and Mylene are caught in the swirl of a looming cultural revolution destined to change everything about their world – but they have this moment to make their mark. Amidst the backdrop of a bankrupt New York City, ruthless gangsters and money-hungry record label bosses, they discover it’s only their creativity and love that will carry them through — and that they’ll sacrifice everything for their music, and each other.
The cast of the The Get Down includes Shameik Moore (“Shaolin Fantastic”), Justice Smith (“Ezekiel ‘Books’ Figuero”), Herizen Guardiola (“Mylene Cruz”), Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (“Cadillac”), Jaden Smith (“Dizzee Kipling”), Skylan Brooks (“Ra Ra Kipling”), Tremaine Brown Jr. (“Boo Boo Kiping”), Mamoudou Athie (“Grandmaster Flash”) and Jimmy Smits (“Francisco ‘Papa Fuerte’ Cruz”).
“The Get Down” is produced by Sony Pictures Television for Netflix. The series is executive produced by Baz Luhrmann, Catherine Martin, Nas, Stephen Adly Guirgis, Thomas Kelly, and Paul Watters.
Part Two, comprising five episodes, will launch globally on Friday, April 7th exclusively on Netflix.
