The long-gestating revisioning of Mr. & Mrs. Smith is full steam ahead with Prime Video releasing new images and a premiere date for the series starring Donald Glover and Maya Erskine.

All eight episodes of the series will drop on Prime Video Feb. 2, 2024 and star Glover and Erskine as new versions of the characters featured in the 2005 film starring Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt. In this version, the two characters are spies who have to be married for the job. But eventually, the marriage-for-work situation becomes something bigger.

According to the synopsis:

In this version of Mr. & Mrs. Smith, two lonely strangers land jobs working for a mysterious spy agency that offers them a glorious life of espionage, wealth, world travels, and a dream brownstone in Manhattan. The catch? New identities in an arranged marriage as Mr. and Mrs. John and Jane Smith. Now hitched, John and Jane navigate a high-risk mission every week while also facing a new relationship milestone. Their complex cover story becomes even more complicated when they catch real feelings for each other. What’s riskier: espionage or marriage?

Also starring, according to prior reports, are Michaela Coel, John Tuturro and Paul Dano.

As Shadow and Act has previously reported, Atlanta producer Francesca Sloane is executive producing with Glover. Sloane will also serve as the series’ showrunner. Other executive producers include New Regency’s Yariv Milchan and Michael Schaefer as well as Wells Street Film’s Jenny Robbins.
