Tokenism.

Unfortunately, many black folks who spend any amount of time in predominantly white spaces inevitably have to deal with this phenomenon which reduces their value of blackness to appease white guilt or fill some "diversity quota." This is especially true if you've ever felt misunderstood at a predominantly white institution. 

Two poets (Akeem Olaj, FreeQuency) from Slam New Orleans take this issue head on with a descriptive and witty piece about their time as tokens at Tulane University in New Orleans, LA.
