Squid Game director Hwang Dong-hyuk wasn't a huge fan of LeBron James' review of the movie, ESPN reports. The Lakers star appeared at a press conference where he revealed he didn't like the show's ending during an impromptu conversation with teammate Anthony Davis. 

James said he understands there's more to the tale, but that doesn't make the ending any more palatable for him.

"I didn't like the ending though," James said. "I know they start it off with a Season 2 but, like, get on the f**king flight and go see your daughter, bro. Like what are you doing?" 

Dong-hyuk shared his distaste over the basketball player's comments, clapping back at the 36-year-old.

"Have you seen Space Jam 2?" he said in an interview with The Guardian. "LeBron James is cool and can say what he wants. I respect that. I’m very thankful he watched the whole series. But I wouldn’t change my ending. That’s my ending. If he has his own ending that would satisfy him, maybe he could make his own sequel. I’ll check it out and maybe send him a message saying, 'I liked your whole show, except the ending.'"

James caught wind of the clapback, reacting to the news on Twitter. 

"This can’t be real right??!! I hope not," he tweeted, along with several crying laughing emojis. 

Space Jam 2 served as James' first lead acting role in a major film. The film premiered this year but didn't open to the best reviews. The film raked in almost $163 million in worldwide earnings overall, according to Box Office Mojo. The original 1996 film brought in around $230 million in worldwide earnings. 

James' SpringHill Company backed the feature film sequel to the original Space Jam movie. SpringHill Company, which started off as SpringHill Entertainment, was founded in 2020 and released the More Than a Game documentary, which detailed the lives of James and his teammates during the game between St. Vincent and St. Mary High School in Akron, Ohio.
