Lena Dunham apologized to Odell Beckham Jr.

On Friday, Dunham became the focus of social media buzz when her Lenny Letter interview with Amy Schumer was published claiming the New York Giants wide receiver determined, she “was not the shape of a woman by his standards.”

The thing is..Odell never told Lena this.

She drew this conclusion for him.

“After listening to lots of valid criticism”, the Girls star admitted she feels “terrible about it.”

People near and afar from all ethnic bacgrounds collectively read her for filth.

After the nonstop backlash, now Lena feels bad. Who knows how she would have felt had she not been criticized or if she would have even had the decency to apologize.

She wrote on Instagram, “Despite my moments of bravado, I struggle at industry events (and in life) with the sense that I don’t rep a certain standard of beauty and so when I show up to the Met Ball surrounded by models and swan-like actresses it’s hard not to feel like a sack of flaming garbage.”

Let me get this straight. Because she felt less sexy about her looks and entire existence, it was within Lena’s right at the time to project those same insecurities on a man simply living his life.

Got it.

Where her apology really gets interesting is when she references the self-victimization of white women in cases of black men.

“But most importantly, I would never intentionally contribute to a long and often violent history of the over-sexualization of black male bodies- as well as false accusations by white women towards black men,” she wrote.

Lena concluded by writing, “The fact is I don’t know about his state of mind (I don’t know a lot of things) and I shouldn’t have acted like I did.”

Judging by his lack of response at the Met Gala and the days following the backlash of her statement, one could gather Odell gives zero effs about the ordeal. He has yet to acknowledge Lena, again.

If she really wants to clear her conscience, LD should try reviewing the history of black men murdered and brutalized for innocently looking in the direction of a white woman before she ever gets upset at one for ignoring her ever again. To follow the history of lies, Emmett Till is a good start followed by George Stinney Jr.

I owe Odell Beckham Jr an apology. Despite my moments of bravado, I struggle at industry events (and in life) with the sense that I don’t rep a certain standard of beauty and so when I show up to the Met Ball surrounded by models and swan-like actresses it’s hard not to feel like a sack of flaming garbage. This felt especially intense with a handsome athlete as my dinner companion and a bunch of women I was sure he’d rather be seated with. But I went ahead and projected these insecurities and made totally narcissistic assumptions about what he was thinking, then presented those assumptions as facts. I feel terrible about it. Because after listening to lots of valid criticism, I see how unfair it is to ascribe misogynistic thoughts to someone I don’t know AT ALL. Like, we have never met, I have no idea the kind of day he’s having or what his truth is. But most importantly, I would never intentionally contribute to a long and often violent history of the over-sexualization of black male bodies- as well as false accusations by white women towards black men. I’m so sorry, particularly to OBJ, who has every right to be on his cell phone. The fact is I don’t know about his state of mind (I don’t know a lot of things) and I shouldn’t have acted like I did. Much love and thanks, Lena
