If you’re on any sort of social media, you’re well aware of Frank Ocean’s return to music. However, he isn’t the only singer who has resurfaced lately. In the past week or so, both Lloyd and Joe have released videos for their latest singles, and each song is worth a listen.

Lloyd’s song is titled “Tru,” and it’s the epitome of soul music. Over a smooth beat from J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League, he addresses the absence of solo music from him in the past four years. Lloyd sings, “Hey world, yeah I know it’s been awhile/ thought I’d come around and let you know what’s up now/ No album lately, so my mind is kind of up-down/ I’ve still been taking care of my momma and them somehow.” Lloyd goes on to open up about the trials that have occupied him, from lawsuits to family loss.

Joe’s hiatus hasn’t been nearly as long as Lloyd’s. He released two great albums back to back with 2013’s Doubleback and 2014’s Bridges. In the time since then, he gained a lot of praise for his cover of Adele’s “Hello,” but his fans have anticipated original music from him. Joe’s new single seems to carry on the sound of that cover, because it’s a piano-driven ballad that’s somber in tone. On “So I Can Have You Back,” Joe sings as a man hoping to have the chance to reunite with an ex that has moved on. The sentiment of the song comes at the expense of a new boyfriend in the woman’s life, but it’s common nonetheless. Joe sings, “Can you hear me when I pray for you/ Never knew tears could make an ocean blue/ Fear of forever is a door that I don’t want closed.”

Check out the songs and keep an eye out for forthcoming projects from both artists!
