According to Complex, Ava Duvernay, director of Selma, has been reportedly eyed by Marvel to direct a diverse superhero film — likely Black Panther or Captain Marvel. It is highly possible that it will be Black Panther, due in July 2008 as told to TheWrap. If Duvernay does direct a film for Marvel, she would be their first black director and the first woman to do so.

Chadwick Boseman is slated to star in The Black Panther as T’Challa, the prince of Wakanda, who will succeed his father’s reign and avenge his death. Captain Marvel centers on a woman, Carol Danvers, who gets powers after meeting aliens from the Kree empire. Captain Marvel will also be the first female-driven superhero movie.

Kudos to Ava Duvernay!
