It’s always refreshing to wake up and see one of the biggest publishers of comic books and related media in the United States making a stride toward diversity within its publications. Recently, Marvel announced one of its newest superheroes — Moon Girl of Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur. Lunella Lafayette, or Moon Girl as she will be commonly referred to in the comics, is a pre-teenage girl of color. The comic books will follow her adventures alongside her companion — a red Tyrannosaurus rex.

Brandon Montclare, who helped to write the comic, said the following about the importance of a book like this one:

“A greater number of readers are looking for characters they can identify with, and above all, with the aim that any reader, whatever their background or lifestyle, is capable of transcending their own identities to see themselves in a mirror of entertainment for 20 or 30 minutes without any difference.”

YAAAS Moon Girl. SLAY.
