President Obama announced Tuesday morning that he will be deeming a historic house on Capitol Hill as a new national monument to recognize the women suffragettes and all women who have fought hard throughout history for women equality. Obama says he does not feel these stories should just be archived in historical books, they should be celebrated and displayed in a way that it amazes those who look upon it.

“I want young girls, and boys, to come here — 10, 20, 100 years from now — to know that women fought for equality. It was not just given to them,” Obama said during his speech.

Overall, Obama says he wants this to be more than just something to reflect upon because he feel those stories still reflect the narratives we see today. The house will now be known as the Belmont-Paul Women’s Equality National Monument.

Thanks Obama! Wonder if he’ll create any other monuments before he leaves office.
