Tuesday night the hashtag Alfred Olango started trending, informing the world that another black man had been killed in a police involved shooting. The sister of 30 year old Alfred Olango called 911 for assistance reporting that her brother was not acting like himself. In response to her call the El Cajon arrived at the scene.  The El Cajon, California Police Department stated in a press release that Olango had his hand concealed and was instructed to remove his concealed hand from his pocket.

When he failed to follow the instructions of the officer, one of the officers drew his service weapon and repeated the instructions asking him to take his hand out of his pocket. A second responding officer arrived on the scene and attempted to deploy “a less lethal electronic control device.” They then state that Olango paced back and forth refusing instruction and took his hand out of his pocket rapidly while taking what appeared to be a “shooting stance.” Both officers simultaneously discharged their weapons, one with the less lethal electronic control device and the other with his firearm. Alfred Olango died due to his injuries.

Witnesses claim that Olango had no weapon and was only seen with a smoking vape electronic device. In the aftermath, the sister of the victim live streamed on Facebook asking why the officers shot her brother. “I called you to help me but you killed my brother….Why couldn’t you guys tase him? Why why why why?”.

As community outrage continues to grow the police department has begun releasing information. The police department has started an investigation into the matter.
