Hampton University recently announced that proceeds from President William R. Harvey's book "Principles of Leadership," will go toward student scholarships. Intellectual Property Publishing House, Ltd. (IPHH) recently published the Chinese version of the book, and Harvey — who has served as president of the HBCU since 1978 — launched it via video chat during the prestigious Beijing Book Fair, according to a university press release.

"Principles of Leadership: The Harvey Leadership Model" chronicles Harvey's many challenges growing up as a black man in America's then-segregated South. The book includes the foundation of Harvey's 10 principles of leadership that he explains using his own life lessons.

“…Outstanding leadership examples from my parents, other role models, professional mentors and colleagues, the study of leadership, and my own thoughts propelled me to develop the Harvey leadership model,” said Harvey.

“It is the great honor of IPPH to publish the Chinese version of 'Principles of Leadership,’ said Mr. Zhu Mingang, president of IPPH. “The successful experiences of President Harvey are fully revealed in this book, which is not only related to management science, but also more to the humanities. Since the knowledge and wisdom of leadership is not confined to any nation’s border or to any industry, we believe the life and experiences of Dr. Harvey will greatly inspire management leaders, as well as would-be leaders from all walks of life.”

The Mandarin version of Harvey's book will be sold in bookstores throughout China, including the Xinhua book stores, and can be bought through various e-commerce online sites. With his book, Harvey hopes to inspire students and give back to students and higher education. In 2016, he and his wife Norma topped $3 million in total giving to Hampton University and gave more than $1 million to his alma mater, Talladega College in 2017.

“If my life’s work and my book can be an inspiration to young minds in China, as well as here in the U.S., I will indeed feel truly blessed that I’ve been able to help to make a positive difference in the world,” Harvey said.
