IT’S FINALLY HERE. After five seasons, countless team outings, hundreds of client meetings and Marty talking to us in his own special way, House of Lies gives us one more episode. It was epic, historic and legendary.

Marty and the squad have finally arrived in Cuba with one singular mission — close the biggest deal of their lives. The weather is beautiful, the people are friendly and the stakes couldn’t be higher.

They run into Monica at their hotel, who has nothing but disrespect for them, as usual.

In a quick flashback, Doug takes one too many sleeping pills and ends up making out with an elderly woman on the plane. Typical.

The team meets Samuel, who is helping them broker the deal in Cuba and wants to cut into the deal. He gives them some gems about what doing business there will entail. Doing business in Cuba is nothing like the states, and it requires a totally different frame of mind.
The initial meeting goes terribly, but they take a more scenic trip through Cuba, discovering more of the country’s culture and scenery, which is good for everyone.

Marty starts to realize that the kind of life he might want looks exactly like what’s always been in front of him, and he doesn’t know what to do about it.

Monica pitches her Cuba strategy, which is built on free-market expansion, labor tactics and a full scale takeover financed by the Kohl brothers. It doesn’t go well. To make it worse, the brothers decide to settle a physical dispute in the meeting and end up going outside to fight.

Marty’s plan to manipulate Monica takes full form, as her entire pitch is based off of false information he planted. He realizes that Cuba doesn’t need a strategic growth plan or a pricing analysis. It will become what it needs to in due time.

In a move that we’ve thought would never happen, (but have all secretly been waiting for), Marty asks Jeannie to marry him. She says yes, and it’s awesome.

Skip Galweather makes one final plea for Marty to reconsider the buyout offer, which he calmly denies.

We end the episode the same way we started, with Marty and Jeannie on the beach in a stolen car. The wedding turned into a giant dance party, which is not only incredible, but the perfect way to end five seasons of mayhem with some well-deserved peace and happiness.

What a time to be alive.

Lines that made us lose our chill

You see my old fu*k buddy, you losing is tantamount to a win” – Marty

“They’re a collegial people, swashbuckling, hopelessly romantic” – Doug

“In Cuba, nothing will go the way you think” Samuel

The last moment

Love wins, finally.

Throughout the past five years, we know that Marty has seen it all. The ups, the downs, big money, tough losses and the fact that love is messy. He learned that it’s even tougher when you prioritize everything in front of it. Marty falls in love with Cuba, which reminds him of what he’s always known about Jeannie but might not have been ready to admit. If Marty can be happy, things might be ok for the rest of us.

Thanks for five awesome years, House of Lies. We’ll miss you, but thankfully you’ll be streaming whenever we need some Marty Kaan back in our lives.
