Reigning from the beautiful island of Jamaica, Sanneta Myrie is the contestant to watch at this year’s Miss World pageant, which takes place December 19 in Sanya, China. Born in Kingston, the nation’s capital, Myrie has made history for black women everywhere before the final competition has even begun.

Although the Miss World pageant has seemed to slowly embrace more diverse looks over the years, they’ve yet to have a contestant rocking dreadlocks. However, this will all change on Saturday as the 24-year-old medical doctor graces the stage.

But aside from making headlines for her signature tresses, initially growing up in poverty herself, Myrie wishes to become a role model for young girls around the globe, inspiring them to achieve their dreams no matter their circumstance.

Whether Myrie takes home the crown or not this weekend, there’s no question that she will continue to be an inspiration for black girls and women everywhere who want to showcase their natural beauty on the world stage for years to come.
