Serena Williams’ photoshoot with WSJ Magazine serves in a major way! The superstar athlete and icon opened up to the WSJ about her cameo in Lemonade, her passion for fashion, and much more, all while looking fresh-faced and fabulous.
It’s hard to imagine Serena never playing tennis, but if she never started, she believes she would still be in California living without limitations.
“Maybe I would be married? Maybe I would have kids? I would like to believe I would. I would have probably gone into some kind of science. I love animals.” She later adds,“maybe I would have become a veterinarian.”
When asked about her involvement with Lemonade Williams says she’s “known Bey for a long time,” and also admits she got “really sore from dancing!”.
Serena proves she’s trustworthy and can keep a secret, telling WSJ, “If you tell me, ‘Don’t say anything,’ I won’t say anything.”
It’s not likely Serena will leave tennis anytime soon, but there are things to look forward to in her post-tennis life such as her philanthropy and fashion business. “I think it will hit me,” she says. “I’ll just have the feeling of ‘I don’t want to do it anymore.’”
Serena has been in the spotlight for practically two decades now and is an inspiration to black women, using her platform to make as big a difference as she can. She’s spoken out on several occasions regarding women’s issues and has no problem firing back when people step out of line.
The 34-year-old who is obviously showing no signs of slowing down, gives an intimate portrait of what it took to build her champion status in the Serena documentary which debuts Wednesday on EPIX.
The Wall Street Journal hails Serena as a “symbol of female and African-American power, a philanthropist, social media influencer, fashion designer and celebrity unlike anyone in women’s sports, who can stand shoulder to shoulder with any icon of her era.” Check out the full interview.
She’s all of this and so much more.
