In an Instagram video posted Monday, Snoop Dogg expressed his concern with how much focus is put on the abusive relationship that our community had with America. He says there is widespread abuse we still face today that doesn’t get as much attention.
The Doggfather feels like the abundance of material in the media that retells the slave experience is just a way to “keep showing the abuse we took, hundreds and hundreds of years ago”, without any focus on “the success that black folks are having.”
He then calls for people to boycott Roots and programming like it, urging the need for creation of media that highlights the present day successes and struggles in the Black community.
Although, there will definitely be some mention of the expletives that Uncle Snoop used in passion, isn’t there a perspective in his rant that deserves some thought and attention?
