The stars of the upcoming film Straight Outta Compton held a press conference in LA about the process of making the movie this past weekend.

The film takes place in California in the 1980s, and centers around a group of young men who formed the hip-hop group N.W.A. and revolutionized music and pop culture with their brutal honesty.

One of the biggest things the cast had to work on while starring in a film about legendary icons such as Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, Eazy-E, MC Ren, DJ Yella and more, was getting into character. It’s even more important in a story like this than with fictional characters. The film’s director, F. Gary Gray, asked the cast to become the artists rather than to just portray them on screen. This process even included recording the entire Straight Outta Compton album, according to the director.

During the press conference, the cast discussed the emotions that come from portraying such an important story in this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Although some lucky viewers across the country have been able to see Straight Outta Compton already, the movie will be widely released August 14th.
