Determined by the Academy’s voting membership, Grammy awards have often fallen under scrutiny regarding equal representation. The music industry is known for its failure to recognize deserving artists of color, often causing uproar within social media. Just this year, Nicki Minaj chastised the MTV Music Awards for failing to award women of color. With the 58th Annual Grammy awards quickly approaching, many eagerly waited with high hopes of a diverse group of artists.
This morning, singer, songwriter, and 15-time Grammy award winning artist Alicia Keys read the names of nominees via live broadcast, revealing a rather diverse combination of musical artists. Though there’s always room for improvement, the most recent Grammy nomination pool provides room for optimism. With over 10 nominations, Kendrick Lamar leads the nominee pool followed by The Weeknd, Drake, and a variety of others. Here’s a list of this year’s nominees to keep an eye on.
