In conjunction with the Sundance Institute, Nate Parker has announced The Birth of a Nation Fellowship program. The fellowship will be underwritten by the cast and crew of the highly-anticipated film The Birth of a Nation and it will support one filmmaker of color each year for the next five years in the Sundance Ignite program. Sundance Ignite was established in 2015 and provides year-round mentorship and industry experiences for young artists.

“Our fellowship will allow one new 18-to-25-year old filmmaker of color to participate in the Sundance Ignite program each year, attend the festival, meet some of the best talent in the industry and receive the same kind of invaluable mentorship that I did,” Parker said.

This is wonderful news for young, promising filmmakers of color who lack access to resources and the industry elite. Opportunity is the main thing that stands in the way of their success, and Nate Parker and team just helped make that opportunity a little more of a reality.
