The mainstream media would like you to believe that Kevin Hart is the only working black stand-up comedian – wrong! Jerrod Carmichael is slowly taking the game by storm and it seems like nobody is paying attention.

In 2014, Jerrod had reached peak comedic success with his HBO Special, Love at the Store. Carmichael’s intelligent but edgy jokes help him create a dynamic on stage many can’t compete with. He touches on everything — poverty, wealth, crime, race, national tragedies, female empowerment and more.

Then, in 2015, he saw the debut of his NBC comedy The Carmichael Show, with the focus being some of the same material he’s most known for in his stand-up.

Jerrod covers everything from Black Lives Matter to birth control, but where is the support? We always complain about shows that “make black folks look bad,” well Jerrod has fixed that!

Here’s a young man reaching to talk about topics and our community is nowhere to be found. Of course we love Blackish and everything Shondaland blesses us with, but we need diversity in our black voices.

Hip-hop is young, it’s fun and it’s fresh. Jerrod is working hard and it’s time we give him some shine. Let’s help usher in a brand new group of leaders and support them. Keep going strong, Jerrod!

Watch The Carmichael Show every Sunday at 9PM/8PM CT on NBC.
