Hundreds of students at the University of Arizona staged a protest Friday to seek justice for a Black student who faced a racial attack on campus last week.

According to a police report obtained by AZCentral, the victim said two men called him a "n****r" and physically assaulted him at a residence hall.

Police said the victim suffered minor injuries from the September 10 attack, including scrapes on his knuckles, elbow and knee. Arizona Republic reports the men punched the student in the head and kicked him as he laid on the ground.

Protesters said the two white men were initially directed to a social justice diversion training program instead of facing charges. The university released a statement on Twitter Friday, saying police arrested the two suspects in connection with the attack.

According to the police report, the two men were arrested at a nearby house after the attack. The report names two white men, Matthew Frazier and Matthew Rawlings, as the attackers.

Police said the men appeared to be intoxicated when officers confronted them after the incident.

One of the men said he was trying to get his friend to stop fighting the African American student, but both men said they couldn't recall much more of what happened, the police report stated.

The victim told police he has been seeing the attacks repeatedly in his head.

"He said the incident replays (in his head) every day, every second and it is frustrating," the police report said. "Every time he feels pain in his hand he is reminded of it."

Both students were charged with a misdemeanor assault, the university said.

The Pima County Attorney's Office will review the recommended charges and decide whether to prosecute, AZCentral reported.

According to NBCNews, this is the second high-profile case between students and campus police at the University of Arizona.

The school faced criticism in April after police filed misdemeanor charges against three students involved in an on-campus protest of U.S. Border Patrol agents who were giving a presentation.
