South Africa/Canadian actress Kandyse McClure (probably best known for her work as Anastasia Dualla on the classic Sci-Fi hit military drama series Battlestar Gallactica) is part of the cast of Netflix’s new horror thriller original series Hemlock Grove.

Yes, in case you missed the memo, Netflix is a content creator now; not just a distributor/exhibitor.

Hemlock Grove comes from executive producer Eli Roth and is based on Brian McGreevy’s novel of the same name, which revolves around the murder of a young girl found close to the former Godfrey steel mill. The suspects in her killing include a 17-year-old Gypsy kid from the wrong side of the tracks, and the arrogant Godfrey scion, whose sister is disturbingly deformed, and whose mother is the beautiful and controlling grand dame of Hemlock Grove. In the end, the suspects decide to find the killer themselves.

McClure is part of a cast that includes Bill SkarsgardFamke Janssen, Lili Taylor, and Dougray Scott.

She plays a Dr. Chausser, who is an animal behaviorist with a history of self-destructive habits, who looks to the military to create order in her own life, and often becomes conflicted with who she wants to be and who she is.

As it did with House Of Cards (an excellent political drama series you should see), Netflix will release all 13 episodes of Hemlock Grove at one time, this Friday, April 19, 2013.

And while the trailers I’ve seen thus far haven’t really moved me the way House Of Cards did, I’ll check out the new series this weekend in another round of binge-watching, as I did with House Of Cards, watching the entire season in 2 days.

I just hope it’s good enough for me to want to watch all 13 episodes.

McClure recently shined alongside Rachel Leigh Cook in the dramatic feature film Broken Kingdom, released in October of last year. She’s also starred in many notable films and television series including: Showtime’s Jeremiah, NBC’s psychological drama series Persons Unknown, and others.

It doesn’t look like she has a major role in Hemlock Grove however, based on marketing materials released thus far. But we’ll see.
