In these good ol' United States of America we are in the midst of a generational and cultural shift. Black millennials, like you and me, have made a conscientious decision to stand up, speak up and be the change we want to see in our world. We are fed up with systemic oppression, racism and injustice, and we are sure as hell fed up with waiting on another generation to fix these problems for us. Now, don’t get me wrong, we appreciate all of our foremothers and forefathers that have paved the way and fought the good fight for us. However, at some point, each generation must move from the passenger seat to the driver seat.

We are at that time. The 2018 midterm elections were proof of that.

In many areas, we witnessed the highest voter turnout of millennials in history. As a result, we saw more women, LGBTQ and people of color elected to office than ever before. We helped Democrats take the House of Representatives back. More importantly, we sent a clear message that all of the political pundits need to put some respect on our name as a serious voting block.

In the voice of the talented Keke Palmer, but the gag is, we are just getting started. Our eyes are on 2020 and we have one clear goal: get Donald Trump out of the damn White House.

Donald Trump is the epitome of the bigotry, supremacy, racism, xenophobia and homophobia that has been prevalent in this country since its inception. Instead of being a leader that brings people together, he has done nothing but tear us further apart. For that reason, we are over him and his racist policies. Truth is, we have been over him for quite some time now. That is why we had no time to indulge in his gaslighting and lies during the State of the Union address last night. You can’t pay too much attention to a liar, and Donald Trump is a proven liar. He says one thing and does another. He is the bully with the big mouth that gets beat up when it’s time to throw hands.

Furthermore, Donald Trump does not speak our language and he does not understand what affects us. In his speech, he did not say much about affordable healthcare for all. He did not say one word about affordable college or higher wages. He failed to mention anything about children torn apart from their mothers at the border or furloughed workers that were severely affected by his 35 day government shutdown. Instead, he peddled his same tired a** pile of fear and falsehoods.

If you believed him, you would have gone away thinking that America is a utopia that is under siege by an angry caravan of criminal aliens at the border.

Thankfully, Black millennials see right through the orange man’s white supremacist bulls**t and, in my  best Fantasia voice, we have "no time for it." Trump and his crooked cronies know that their time is running out, but they will not go away quietly into the night. That is why we have no choice but to stay woke and stay involved in our politics on every level — local, state and national. That is why we have to vote in every election and vet the hell out of every candidate. Candidates can no longer win our hearts by visiting a few Sunday church services or making shallow promises. We want to see all of the receipts and vote for candidates that have our best interests at heart.

I'm not Miss Cleo, but there is one thing that I know for sure: Black millennials will not let Donald Trump get re-elected in 2020, because our future is on the line.
