When Nedra ‘Neddy’ Calloway first met Kevin Sterling Jones, she thought that he was a little quiet. In fact, she nicknamed him “the weirdo” because of it. A friendship soon blossomed between the two until things took a turn.

In a video Calloway shared on TikTok, she said that she moved to Vallejo, California, in the early 2000s, where she met a woman she referred to as “T.”

According to Calloway, T was the manager at an adult video store, and Jones, who Calloway and T referred to as “the weirdo,” would hang out there all the time.

She explained that they called him “weirdo” because he was very quiet, and just stared at the adult videos playing on the TV in the store.

“Once we actually talked to him, he didn’t seem like a bad guy,” said Calloway. “We all would hang out, barbecue on weekends, walk to the corner store, etc.”

Soon after, Calloway said T and “the weirdo” began dating.

Some time passed, and Calloway said “the weirdo” was accused of stalking a woman in her apartment complex.

“He’d been leaving X-rated videos and peering through her window,” Calloway explained.

Jones was arrested and charged for stalking the woman. According to Calloway, he asked if she would speak to his character during his trial. Because they were friends, Calloway obliged.

“Due to character witnesses and lack of evidence, ‘weirdo’ was released and the charges were dropped,” Calloway explained in a follow-up video.

She also mentioned that it was standard for Jones and T to be at her home daily. However, something was off in November, when Jones had gone missing for around three or four days.

“During that time, a teenage girl was found raped and murdered one city over,” Calloway shared.

Calloway said that Jones eventually returned to Vallejo and appeared to be nervous and jittery. He explained to her that he was at the police station being interrogated for a crime he didn’t commit.

The friends hung out as if nothing happened, not connecting the murder that occurred in the town over to the situation Jones was referring to.

The following year, Calloway moved away and lost contact with her friends.

Another year or so passed, and Calloway said she received a call from Jones, essentially “bullying” her to hang out with him and a friend. When Calloway declined, she said Jones became unusually angry and began cursing her out.

“He began cursing me out and telling me I’m not a real friend, and if I was his friend, I would come and hang out, blah, blah, so I hung up the phone in his face,” she explained, revealing that she didn’t feel good about going out with him that night after the way he spoke to her.

The next day, Calloway received another phone call, this time from a detective.

Detective Lacey of Napa County contacted Calloway to inform her that he had been trying to reach her but had difficulty doing so. However, the reason they were trying to reach her was most shocking.

According to Lacey, authorities were trying to find Calloway because they wanted to relocate her. They had been tipped off by an informant that Jones, who was responsible for raping and strangling a 22-year-old Fairfield woman in 1999 and the 16-year-old in 2000, intended to make Calloway his next target.

Jones was apprehended during a botched robbery of a beauty salon in Berkeley, California. Police received prior knowledge of Jones’ plan to rob the salon and went undercover as hairdressers. Jones was shot and taken into custody.

In 2006, Jones was sentenced to two life sentences without the possibility of parole, the Times-Herald reported at the time.

Calloway revealed in her video that the informant that saved her life is now also in jail for the rape of his own niece.

Calloway said that she’s sharing her story to hopefully inspire others to trust their gut because it may be a lifesaving instinct.
