This story will follow two brown girls with ambitions of becoming dancers.  The setting of the book moves between North West London and West Africa and the storyline is “about friendship and music and stubborn roots, about how we are shaped by these things and how we can survive them.”

While one of the girls actually has the talent to become the dancing sensation she dreams to be, the other girl has ideas about black music, rhythm and personal freedom through expression.

While we prepare the arrival of Swing Time, be sure to check out some of Smith’s other award-winning novels such as: White TeethThe Autograph ManOn Beauty, NW and the essay collection Changing My Mind.
