Newcomer GeraldSlinkJohnson (Grand Theft Auto V) stars as Black Jesus, and will be joined by Charlie Murphy, Corey Holcomb, and John Witherspoon

Production has begun on the new series in Los Angeles, CA, which will premiere later this year.

McGruder, who created the series, will serve as executive producer through his 5 Mutts Productions along with writer/director Mike Clattenberg, as well as Norman Aladjem and John Bravakis of LEG.

This news comes on the heels of January’s announcement by the network that McGruder’s The Boondocks will return on April 21.

Adult Swim, launched in 2001, is Turner Broadcasting System’s network offering original and acquired animated and live-action series for young adults, airing nightly from 9pm to 6am ET/PT.
