I’ve learned that director Gregg Araki (Kaboom, Mysterious Skin) is currently in post-production on his film adaptation of Laura Kasischke’s novel White Bird In A Blizzard, a film that Gabourey Sidibe and Angela Bassett are cast members of – interestingly, because both actresses also will be appearing together in the upcoming season of American Horror Story.
The film, which was shot last year, also features the acting talents of Shailene Woodley, Eva Green, Shiloh Fernandez, and Christopher Meloni.
The indie drama, described as a psychological thriller, inspired by true events, tells the story of a troubled young woman (played by Woodley) whose life is upended following the mysterious disappearance of her mother.
We now know exactly what roles Bassett and Sidibe play in the film. Bassett is a psychologist treating the troubled young woman, and who is helping her process the fact that her mother has disappeared; meanwhile Sidibe plays the young woman’s close friend.
Katrina Connor, Araki will produce the feature, with collaborators Pascal Caucheteux and Sebastien Lemercier of Why Not Productions.
Currently in post-production, I’d expect an early 2014 film festival debut.
Before then however, see both actresses in FX’s American Horror Story: Coven, when the new season arrives on October 9 at 10 PM ET/PT on FX.
