After a recent recurring role on True Blood as Lafayette’s (Nelsan Ellis') mom Ruby Jean, Alfre Woodard will guest star on Private Practice during the fall season, playing Taye Diggs’ mother, in an episode that will air in November.

No word on whether it'll be a recurring role as well.

Before that, Woodard will first be seen playing Ouiser in Lifetime’s all-black remake of Steel Magnolias, which airs on October 7.

Last season on Private Practice, Taye Diggs' character's sister Corinne (played by Anika Noni Rose) made an appearance.

Private Practice returns this fall on September 25.
