Atlanta – Producers of the 2013 BronzeLens Film Festival will celebrate the life and legacy of Alice Walker, Pulitzer Prize recipient and significant author of the 20th century, through its screening of the award winning documentary, Alice Walker: Beauty in Truth.
The screening will take place on Wednesday, November 6, 2013, 6:00 PM at Georgia Tech’s Ferst Center located at 349 Ferst.
Both Alice Walker and director, Pratibha Parmar will participate in a post screening Talkback, moderated by Valerie Boyd, author of Wrapped in Rainbows: The Life of Zora Neal Hurston and the editor of Gathering Blossoms Under Fire, based on Alice Walker’s diaries.
In 1983, Alice Walker made history as the first African American Woman to receive the Pulitzer Prize for her groundbreaking novel, The Color Purple. The novel was transformed into a Hollywood movie by famed director Steven Spielberg and recently as a successful Broadway musical.
Director Pratibha Parmar presents a fascinating, courageous portrait of Alice Walker, the author, poet, gardener, human rights activist and self-confessed renegade. Parmar focuses on Walker’s inspirational humble upbringing during years of violent social changes, and her political and social activism. The film also features interviews of her close circle of friends including Angela Davis, Quincy Jones, Howard Zinn, Yoko Ono, Stephen Spielberg among others.
$25 general admission event tickets are available through Eventbrite at http://blff2013alice.
