A film I profiled about a year ago (Falling Overnight directed by Conrad Jackson – photo above – his feature film debut), is on its way to theaters, starting next week Friday, the 27th of July, at Cinema Village in NYC, and then August 3 at Downtown Independent in Los Angeles, and on August 10 at Merrill’s Roxy Burlington, VT.

Following a highly successful run on the festival circuit, Conrad Jackson’s Falling Overnight will premiere in theaters this summer. The film world premiered at the Cinequest International Film Festival and went on to screen at a number of film festivals where the film won over 15 awards including awards at Cinequest, Sonoma International Film Festival and Nashville Film Festival. Falling Overnight is Jackson’s debut feature film and stars Parker Croft and Emilia Zoryan. Falling Overnight tells the story of twenty-two year old Elliot Carson (Parker Croft) on the day before he has risky surgery to remove a brain tumor. Facing what could be his last night, Elliot’s path intersects with Chloe Webb (Emilia Zoryan), a young photographer who invites him to her art show. Elliot welcomes the distraction and as the night descends, Chloe takes him on an intimate and exhilarating journey through the city. But as morning approaches and Chloe learns of Elliot’s condition, the magic of the evening unravels, and they must together face the uncertainty of Elliot’s future.

Jackson elaborates on the film, “I lost my father from a heart attack at an early age. This sparked a curiosity in me about not just death, but what death means to someone at the peak of their life. Falling Overnight explores that moment when someone realizes how temporary their life is and is awakened to live in the present. My inspiration for directing Falling Overnight came from the amazing film Cleo from 5 to 7 by Agnes Varda. I begrudgingly saw this film in film school and ended up being captivated by the film's realism and voyeuristic qualities. Falling Overnight is my interpretation of what it would be like to be a fly on the wall as we watch Elliot experience what could be his last night.”
Jackson’s short film, L.A. Noir premiered at the Boston International Film Festival where it also won the PBS Independent Lens audience award for directing and best cinematography. Jackson also co-created and produced ABC’s sitcom Freddie with business partner Freddie Prinze Jr., as well as developing television shows for MTV, Nickelodeon, SyFy, and Disney.

Shot on a shoestring budget over fourteen summer nights, Falling Overnight was conceived by director Conrad Jackson in collaboration with writing partners Parker Croft and Aaron Golden. Jackson, Croft and Golden served as executive producers with Jed Rhein and Elizabeth Jackson producing the film. The film’s runtime is 88 minutes.
