A Baltimore mother has confessed to killing her two children, 8-year-old Davin and 6-year-old Da'Neria. It was a building maintenance worker who first spotted the grisly scene at the family's apartment on Tuesday, according to People. Police said the 28-year-old mother, Jamerria Hall, confessed to the killing when she was arrested.

“We can confirm now that the mother 28-year-old Jamerria Hall is the suspect, in this case, having confessed to murdering her children. She’s currently in custody and detectives will be pursuing criminal charges,” Baltimore Police Commissioner Michael Harrison said, according to WJZ .

Neighbors said they heard one of the kids screaming on Aug. 19, saying "Mommy, no!"

That's also the last day Hall was seen with Davin and Da'Neria, court documents stated.

According to the Baltimore Police Department, the bodies of the children had already begun to decompose when they were found on Tuesday.

"Both were in a state of decomposition and visible trauma to the bodies was observed," police said in a statement.

Hall's criminal history was addressed at a news conference after her arrest. The 28-year-old received a one-year sentence in 2018 for first-degree arson and endangering the lives of her children. At that time, she was accused of disabling her parents' smoke detectors, lighting family photos on fire in their apartment and briefly disappearing with her children, The Baltimore Sun reported

When the mother later filed for custody of the children, her request was granted because the father did not respond to court proceedings.

"The tragic deaths of these two beautiful young people will be carefully and very thoroughly reviewed," Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott said at a news conference Wednesday. "We have to and we will close any gap that enables tragedies like this to occur."

Hall is now charged with first-degree murder, first-degree assault and reckless endangerment of the kids.

Neighbors said the children were often seen playing together outside the complex. Hall was known for using social media to express her thoughts on parenting, often talking about the joys and struggles of motherhood. She also featured the kids on her podcast, BMorE Charming.

“My heart goes out to the family members,” Harrison said. “There is nothing more difficult than investigating the murder of a child, much less two children.”

Harrison also said investigators are working with Child Protective Services as part of the investigation. Medical examiners haven't yet determined the official cause of death. No other children were found in the home, police added.

"This is an unfathomable gut-wrenching tragedy," Scott said. "Davin and Da'Neria should be starting school, like the rest of the kids in the city."
