B.G. may be a free man soon. The rapper is currently serving a 14-year sentence that may end sooner than later. According to HipHopDX, during an Instagram live broadcast, entertainment mogul Birdman revealed that the rapper may be home in a “few weeks.” As of right now, the rapper’s current release date is April 7, 2024.

The rapper, whose legal name is Christopher Dorsey, made news earlier this year when a compassionate release request was denied for the third time. Media outlets reported that U.S. District Judge Susie Morgan rejected the motion after three days of deliberating.

B.G. entered his first motion in May 2020. He petitioned for an early release in a letter to the court. In the handwritten statement, he addressed his harsh upbringing and rap career. He stated that he accepted “full responsibility” for his crimes but felt “enough was enough” regarding his punishment.

Judge Morgan ultimately denied the request. She decided the rapper’s behavior in prison was too similar to the action that initially landed him behind bars. She cited nearly a dozen rule violations, including possessing weapons and using drugs. Some violations went back seven years.

Some of the infractions included possession of narcotics and possession of a hazardous tool, and refusing a work assignment.

In her 11-page denial statement, Judge Morgan stated, “He has not presented compelling and extraordinary reasons for his compassionate release and should therefore stay in federal prison until the end of his sentence in 2024.”

The second request for compassionate release came in July 2022, when Birdman wrote a letter to the judge citing the rapper’s possibility to “impact society positively” if his sentence was shortened.

According to Vibe, the music executive said the following about his Cash Money Records protegee.

“He is not only a generational artist but he’s got a platform and the chance to share his experience to better today’s young men who need to hear what he’s got to say. When he is released, I know he will give back and use what he’s gone through to help as many people as possible.”

The plea came with a petition signed by several public figures in the hip-hop and entertainment world. But the appeal fell on deaf ears, as Judge Morgan proceeded to deny the request.

The third compassionate release motion was entered in September 2022. This motion claimed that an effort from his fellow inmate wasn’t intended to be a legal motion on the 42-year-old rapper’s behalf. The motion was entitled, “The Court Misconstrued Defendant’s Motion.” It referred to the 2021 letter B.G. presented to the court asking for a sentence reduction and describing conditions within the prison.

In the letter, he claimed he was at risk of contracting COVID-19 because of his uncared-for health conditions. He also called out his former attorney for “incompetence.” He also mentioned the prosecutors who attempted to “paint him as a violent individual due to his rap lyrics.”

This is not the first time the Cash Money camp has stated that B.G. would be coming home sooner than expected.

Along with a number of claims from Birdman throughout the years, Hot Boy Turk put out a misleading tweet in 2020 that gave fans false hope.

B.G. was arrested in 2012 and sentenced to 14 years in federal prison. His arrest was connected to guns found during a traffic stop in eastern New Orleans. After his arrest, prosecutors tacked on a witness tampering charge, alleging that B.G. pressured two other passengers to take the blame for the weapons.

B.G. is currently incarcerated in FCI Herlong in California.
