In the followup to the "Is this really a controversy?" controversy regarding that Chicken Snack Wraps commercial featuring Mary J. Blige, that got more than a few people quite upset, Burger King has officially released a statement apologizing for the ad.

In the statement the company said that: "We would like to apologize to Mary J. and all of her fans for airing an ad that was not final. We know how important Mary J. is to her fans, and we are currently in the process of finalizing the commercial. We hope to have the final ad on the air soon.”

For her part Blige too also released a statement apologizing for the ad saying that: ”I agreed to be a part of a fun and creative campaign that was supposed to feature a dream sequence. Unfortunately, that’s not what was happening in that clip, so I understand my fans being upset by what they saw. But, if you’re a Mary fan, you have to know I would never allow an unfinished spot like the one you saw to go out.”

Having seen the ad myself I fail to see what the big hue and cry is all about. Is it stupid? You bet. But I have seen A LOT of black commercials or commercials featuring black people in them that were way stupider and more offensive. Yet no one complained about those them.

Blige has made other commercials, and I'm sure all of them weren't classics, so what's the problem with this one? Is it because her fans think it was beneath her to do it? Would they have complained if she was in an ad for Tide detergent? Would people have complained if it was Kevin Hart instead rhapsodising about fried chicken?
