I have been informed that Ghanaian born filmmaker, Leila Djansi, now resident in the US, will be screening her second feature film, Sinking Sands at Cannes Film Festival this year.
Sinkng Sands stars Jimmy Jean Louis, perhaps best known for his role as “The Haitian” on NBC’s hit drama series Heroes,” and British-Ghanaian actress and former TV presenter, Ama K Abebrese, as Jimah and Pabi, respectively, a couple whose match seems made in heaven until a domestic accident turns their loving marriage into one of violence and abuse and Pabi has to choose between love and life, companionship and independence. The film cuts across race and sex, demanding answers and self evaluation from individuals in all types of bondage, particularly women.
It’ll be one of the films on my to-see list and I’ll review it here shortly after its Cannes screening. In the meantime, here’s a trailer.
