A graduate of Howard University’s MFA Program, cinematographer Bradford Young will speak to students, faculty, alumni and the public next Tuesday, October 18th at the C.B. Powell Building, as part of homecoming week festivities.
A recipient of the 2011 Sundance Film Festival Excellence in Cinematography Award for Dee Rees’ Pariah, Young has become one of the most sought-after DPs in indie film.
He is behind the visuals of Ava Duvernay’s forthcoming Middle of Nowhere, Tina Mabry’s Southern family drama Mississippi Damned, Colombian immigrant drama Entre nos, James Spooner’s White Lies, Black Sheep, as well as a string of beautifully shot shorts, commercials and music videos.
Young recently finished principal photography on Ma George, his second collaboration with director Andrew Dosunmu after this year’s Restless City.
His lecture will focus on the trajectory of his career, as well as his latest projects including Pariah and Ma George, and his unique take on the creative process.
The lecture takes place at 3:30pm, with a mixer to follow at Blackbyrd Warehouse. Both events are open to the public.
