CodeBlack Films will be making a splash at this year’s American Black Film Festival, which starts today, June 19, and ends on Sunday, June 23.

The Jeff Clanagan-run Codeblack (a Lionsgate company) will screen 3 films at the festival – 1 of them making its world premiere: Kevin Hart: Let Me Explain, which is the festival’s closing night film on June 22.

Codeblack did very well with Hart’s last concert movie, Laugh At My Pain, in (2011); Let Me Explain is scheduled to debut commercially in theaters on July 3, 2013, after its ABFF premiere.

The other 2 films the company will screen at the festival this week include:

– George Tillman Jr.’s The Inevitable Defeat Of Mister And Pete, the festival’s opening night film, which stars Jennifer Hudson, Skylan Brooks, Anthony Mackie, Jordin Sparks, Jeffrey Wright, and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, in a drama that sees Jennifer Hudson as a drug addict mother whose arrest forces her son and his best friend to fend for themselves.

The script was penned by Michael Starrbury, and by co-produced by Alicia Keys.

– Charles Murray’s feature debut, Things Never Said, which stars Shanola Hampton, Omari Hardwick, Elimu Nelson, Tamala Jones, Dorian Missick and Michael Beach.

In the micro-budgeted drama/romance, a young woman struggles to realize her self-worth, purpose and potential via spoken-word poetry.

Things Never Said is produced by Omar Albertto and Brian Lewis.
