Debbie Allen (and producing partner Sam Haskell) has sold a script for an untitled drama to the CW.
Described as a Fame-like music-themed series (Allen starred in Fame), the new project will center on an LA-based performing arts school.
Matt Witten (House, JAG, Supernatural) has been brought on to write the script and executive produce alongside Debbie Allen and Haskell.
The project marks the latest in the push to bring Fame back to TV. Nearly a year ago to the date, American Idol producer Nigel Lythgoe teamed with MGM Television to reimagine Famefor the small screen with a more contemporary take on the 1980 MGM film and subsequent series that helped catapult Allen to stardom.
With Fox’s Glee and ABC’s Nashville returning, I suppose it shouldn’t be much of a surprise that other networks will attempt to snag some of that music-themed show success.
No word yet on casting.
You might remember that, last year, Ms Allen mentioned her desire to reboot A Different World.
It’s worth noting that Rashida Jones and her older sister, Kidada Jones, also just received a script order from the CW as well, for a project titled Ladyballs.
