Veteran producer Debra Martin Chase has inked a two-year deal at ABC Studios, which will see her develop TV projects through her company, Martin Chase Prods.
As Deadline notes, this new deal brings Chase back to ABC, where she launced her TV career as exec producer of the 1997 musical film Cinderella starring Brandy and Whitney Houston.
"The best drama now is on television with terrific writing and great acting… What would be a medium-size feature that may not get made now can move to TV (as a series) with great success… ABC’s brand of sexy, emotional and fun female-driven, character-driven dramas is what I do, so my brand and sensibility fits very well with theirs."
She points to ABC series like Shonda Rhimes' Scandal as an example of the kind of show she likes.
Chase has produced several film and TV projects including Just Wright, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, and the upcoming Sparkle remake.
And, by the way, she's on the hunt for a "dedicated TV executive" to assist her in this new ABC deal.
